About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Paint Preparation Technician to join a busy, high-quality Bodyshop team. You will be responsible for preparing vehicles to the highest standards before painting, ensuring flawless finishes, accurate repair processes, and full compliance with manufacturer and industry requirements.

This role suits someone who is hands-on, takes pride in their work, and understands the importance of preparation in achieving exceptional paint results.

Key Responsibilities:

Vehicle Preparation

  • Prepare vehicles accurately and skillfully for paintwork.
  • Follow best-practice repair procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use correct paint-mixing schemes, drying areas, and equipment.
  • Interpret technical data, repair instructions, and job cards.

Quality & Customer Satisfaction

  • Complete all tasks within estimated repair and paint times.
  • Ensure vehicles meet retailer, manufacturer, and safety standards before returning to customers.
  • Safeguard customer vehicles and contents throughout the repair process.

Fault Detection & Reporting

  • Identify and report paintwork defects, faults, or additional damage.
  • Record all findings on the job card and communicate additional issues directly to the Estimator.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Accurately report all materials, components, consumables, and labour hours used.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free work environment, including paint areas and ovens.
  • Adhere to all health & safety, environmental, recycling, and internal policies.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in line with company guidelines.
  • Support the Bodyshop Manager and Health & Safety Officer when needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in paint preparation within a Bodyshop environment.
  • Strong understanding of paint systems, mixing, sanding, masking, and vehicle prep techniques.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality finishes.
  • Excellent awareness of workshop safety and compliance.
  • Reliable, organised, and team-oriented attitude.
